Stetson School, an affiliate of the Seven Hills Foundation is hiring a Special Education Teacher.   The Special Education Teacher teaches elementary, middle school and/or secondary school subjects in a special education environment and helps students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens. Prepares lesson plans that reflect Massachusetts’ curriculum frameworks and individualizes instruction based on student needs. Develops Individual Education Programs and documents students’ progress. Aids students with behavioral, emotional and/or physical needs or disabilities. Stetson school observes a 216-day school calendar plus 2 professional development days.   Other duties include: - Prepares and implements lesson plans to meet individual needs of students, considering state and agency requirements, and the physical, emotional, and educational levels of student development. Lesson plans reflect the MA curriculum frameworks. - Designs, modifies and/or selects instructional materials and strategies appropriate to individual student needs. - Employs differentiated instruction using a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media and materials. - Utilizes appropriate assessment techniques, instructional materials, and strategies to implement instruction with a variety of learners. - Designs, develops, and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEP). - Develops and attends Individual Service Plan (ISP) meetings for assigned students. - Models and demonstrates caregiver qualities that treat all students and staff with dignity and respect, creating a warm, nurturing classroom environment for student learning. - Manages student behaviors within their classroom to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for students. - Works closely with ABC I in implementing individual behavior plans. - Teaches socially acceptable behavior employing techniques such as behavior modifications and positive reinforcement. - Student Supervision and Behavior Management - Additions Program support duties may be assigned may be assigned.   Additional Responsibilities: - Administers annual standardized assessment to assigned students. - The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. - Physical management of students when necessary to maintain safety of students and staff.   Paid training! Duties include but are not limited to curriculum development, facility management, and the teaching of vocational skills and techniques in wood shop and related facility and equipment management. In addition to teaching and related duties, the Vocational Teacher prepares and plans thematic units; oversees necessary equipment purchase, installation, and maintenance; and aids students with behavioral, emotional, and/or physical needs or disabilities. Stetson school observes a 216-day school calendar plus 2 professional development days.   - Develops and implements the industrial arts curriculum in wood shop.Teaches middle school, and/or secondary school students industrial arts/wood shop techniques and skills. - Teaches makerspace classes to elementary/ middle school students. - Teaches, illustrates, and demonstrates safe practices in the use of all hand tools, power tools, machines, precision measuring instruments, and other related industrial arts tools and equipment. - Teaches budgeting, purchasing, and record keeping skills in industrial arts equipment and facility maintenance and management. - Develops, prepares, and implements industrial arts plans and projects to meet individual needs of students, considering the physical, emotional, and educational levels of student development. - Designs, modifies, and/or selects instructional materials and strategies appropriate to individual student needs. - Employs differentiated instruction, when relevant, using a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media and materials. - Teaches students application of relevant math skills to support industrial arts education. - Monitors and assesses students’ safety risks and skill level and modifies plans appropriately. - Ensures all students and staff engage in safe behaviors and techniques, and wear safety equipment while in the wood shop. - Models and demonstrates care giver qualities that treat all students and staff with dignity and respect. Supports and incorporates Stetson School’s Culture of Recovery philosophy in daily interactions. - Other program support related duties may be assigned Paid training! Excellent Benefits!
