Under supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Clinician/Clinical Rehabilitation Specialist contributes as a member of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the community-integrated rehabilitation of adults with brain injuries. Primary functions include 1) conducting clinical assessments at intake, admission, and throughout care within our agency covering rehabilitation, skill development, and behavior management needs, 2) development of intervention plans to address skill development and rehabilitation protocols implemented by direct support staff, 3) serving as clinical consultant to a caseload of residential programs, 4) oversight of rehabilitation and behavioral programs implemented by a direct support staff, 5) continuous staff development and training activities as part of program consultation, 6) collaboration with program administration and leadership in the ongoing performance improvement and systems development, and 7) maintaining optimal relationships with families, program staff, and State caseworkers.
The position requires experience with people with acquired brain injuries (ABI) and rehabilitation. The position requires an advanced degree in a field with direct applicability to community-based rehabilitation for people with ABI (MA/MS in mental health, rehabilitation, applied behavior analysis, psychology, and related fields). The clinician must be able to effectively form positive relationships and collaborate with participants, co-workers, and all stakeholders.
Assistant ABI Clinician/Clinical Rehabilitation Specialist. With approval of Director of Clinical Services and the Vice President of SHNC, the designation “assistant” may be added to the job title. This is reserved for individuals who have completed a substantial portion of graduate coursework in a clinical field related to serving individuals with ABI, plus field experience in serving people with ABI and/or field experience delivering (supervised) clinical services in another role/capacity; plus currently enrolled in a graduate program of study leading to completion of a terminal degree appropriate for licensure or certification as a clinical specialist. (Maintaining enrollment and meeting an agreed upon completion date are required for continued employment).

Duties include but are not limited to curriculum development, facility management, and the teaching of vocational skills and techniques in wood shop and related facility and equipment management. In addition to teaching and related duties, the Vocational Teacher prepares and plans thematic units; oversees necessary equipment purchase, installation, and maintenance; and aids students with behavioral, emotional, and/or physical needs or disabilities. Stetson school observes a 216-day school calendar plus 2 professional development days.
- Develops and implements the industrial arts curriculum in wood shop.Teaches middle school, and/or secondary school students industrial arts/wood shop techniques and skills.
- Teaches makerspace classes to elementary/ middle school students.
- Teaches, illustrates, and demonstrates safe practices in the use of all hand tools, power tools, machines, precision measuring instruments, and other related industrial arts tools and equipment.
- Teaches budgeting, purchasing, and record keeping skills in industrial arts equipment and facility maintenance and management.
- Develops, prepares, and implements industrial arts plans and projects to meet individual needs of students, considering the physical, emotional, and educational levels of student development.
- Designs, modifies, and/or selects instructional materials and strategies appropriate to individual student needs.
- Employs differentiated instruction, when relevant, using a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media and materials.
- Teaches students application of relevant math skills to support industrial arts education.
- Monitors and assesses students’ safety risks and skill level and modifies plans appropriately.
- Ensures all students and staff engage in safe behaviors and techniques, and wear safety equipment while in the wood shop.
- Models and demonstrates care giver qualities that treat all students and staff with dignity and respect. Supports and incorporates Stetson School’s Culture of Recovery philosophy in daily interactions.
