 The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to students through independent clinical judgment and the nursing process. This role is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and documenting care to support student health and safety. The RN maintains accountability for the quality of nursing services and collaborates closely with nursing staff, clinical teams, and program personnel to support student well-being.

The Registered Nurse practices in accordance with school policies, the mission of the organization, and all applicable state regulations, while upholding professional nursing standards.

 

Full Time Alternating Schedule:

Responsibilities

• Responds to medical emergencies and provides lifesaving care in accordance with nursing standards and protocols
• Administers medications and treatments as prescribed and within scope of practice
• Conducts nursing assessments, sick call, and admission health evaluations
• Monitors student health status, vital signs, and medication responses, and reports concerns to medical providers
• Maintains accurate documentation, nursing records, and required health data systems
• Coordinates care with physicians, psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, and interdisciplinary treatment teams
• Communicates with families, social workers, and external medical providers
• Manages medication administration, controlled substance inventory, and pharmacy coordination
• Schedules and tracks medical, dental, vision, labs, and specialty appointments
• Provides health education to students, staff, and families
• Participates in ISP meetings, health reviews, team meetings, and required committees
• Assists with staff training, audits, and general nursing office duties

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Professional Standards

 

• Associate’s degree in nursing or equivalent from an accredited nursing program with six months to one year of related experience and or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing

(BLS Certification preferred)
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass all required background checks, including CORI, DCF Abuse and Neglect, Sex Offender Registry, and federal fingerprinting
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
• Basic math, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
• Sound judgment, professionalism, and strong teamwork skills
• Ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive while on duty
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including CPI physical restraint with or without reasonable accommodation

• Ability to perform all essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation
• Knowledge of professional nursing standards, scope of practice, and applicable state regulations
• Strong clinical judgment, assessment, and documentation skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
