Provides leadership and supervision for the Education Department to ensure academic and special education services foster intellectual, social, and emotional development of students. Creates an environment that emphasizes lifelong learning. Develops and provides oversight for educational programming that meets State standards, including curriculum development and State standardized testing. Ensures service integration and effective support and communication systems within the education department. Develops and coordinates grants. Works directly with the Department of Education and other related agencies. Provides supervision to the Assistant Education Director and other assigned education staff. Functions as an integral member of the administrative team.
Provides oversight for all academic, special education, vocational and transitional services.
Provides oversight of curriculum development.
Provides oversight of Individual Education Plans.
Provides oversight of other identified student needs such as occupational and physical therapy.
Provides oversight of all relevant in and out of State standardized testing.
Master’s degree or equivalent in Moderate Special Needs or Special Education Administration and four to ten years related experiences and/or training. Knowledge of the Department of Education regulations and education standards, individual education plans, curriculum development, differentiated instruction, and State standardized tests. Able to interpret and implement policies and regulations, provide leadership under the mission and philosophy of the agency, and work independently and collaboratively with other disciplines.
Special Education Administrator certification or Principal certification and moderate special needs certification.
Requires a current valid driver’s license from state of residence.
Ability to occasionally travel overnights and out of state travel.
Ability to occasionally work nights, overnights, and/or weekends.
Ability to carry and respond to a pager on off-duty hours for on-call purposes
