Overview

The Residential Coordinator (R.C.) is a live-in, dorm-parent position giving support to gap year students (ages 17-22) living in on-site apartments. R.C.’s typically work approximately 40 evening and weekend hours per week, and must be in residence overnight whenever students are in residence. The R.C. is a mentor to students, supplementing the work of the full-time program staff, as well as applying disciplinary policies when necessary. The R.C. manages the residence, living in a separate 1 BR apartment, and directly reports to the Assistant Program Director, who oversees Residential Life. Compensation includes housing and utilities for the duration of the appointment as well as a bi-weekly check accounting for the 40 hours per week average worked. Students are in residence for 8-10 weeks at a time for a total of 30 weeks of the year (September-May). Experience in college residential life highly desirable. BASIC PURPOSE:

The Residential Coordinator provides leadership in a manner that complements the mission of Dynamy and YOU, Inc. and as a team member of Dynamy Residential Life. The Residential Coordinator must be dedicated to building a dynamic, nourishing, and enriching residence community that fosters respect, support and independence. As a member of the Residential Life Staff, the Residential Coordinator is responsible for administering a variety of operational, educational, counseling, and disciplinary intervention components that are designed to foster personal development and a sense of community within the Residence.

Responsibilities

The Residential Coordinator upon employment will be required to attend a week long orientation session in addition to in program orientation specific to the requirements and role of the position at Dynamy.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

1. Responsible for ongoing operation and supervision of students within the residence with an overall emphasis placed on the ongoing safety of students, staff and physical plant.

2. Responsible for creating a community of respect for space, material and person.

3. Responsible for holding weekly house meetings with students in their residence.

 

4. Responsible for maintenance and implementation of program policies and program development.

 

5. Responsible for writing nightly updates and semester check-ins about students in their residences.

6. Responsible for completing weekly and monthly inspections of the residence.

7. Responsible for reporting maintenance issues for the residence in a timely manner.

8. Responsible for completing minor maintenance projects in the residence.

9. Responsible for coordinating and completing monthly fire drills.

10. Responsible for responding to communication from students as issues arise.

11. Responsible for planning, coordinating and executing optional week night and weekend activities for the students.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of a High School diploma required and at least two years of experience in college residential life preferred. Previous experience in field, experience with transitional age students, and/or understanding of social service agencies with demonstrated ability to work successfully in fast paced, demanding environments preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

A valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record to fulfill essential job functions is required, as travel is involved in this position.
ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE:
This position is designated as an Essential Employee. Essential Employees are those who are expected to be on duty within the residence and provide for the safety and well-being of our students when normal operations are suspended e.g. when the main office is closed or has a delayed opening and when non-essential employees are released from work.
Staffing of essential support services may be at reduced levels, determined by the administration, dependent on the needs of our students. No compensatory time, additional wages or premium wages will be paid under these circumstances since the suspended hours are scheduled hours and part of each employee's regular duties.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to perform sedentary aspects of position, including, but not limited to capability of fulfilling demands of driving/transporting students as necessary. Must be in relatively good health and be able to perform the duties listed above, including but not limited to, participating in activities with students which include sports, exercise and other general wellness initiatives.
