Overview

This position is responsible for providing support, coaching, and mentoring to applicants and employees participating in the Human Services Career Support (HSCS) Program, and career support initiatives with other employees as assigned. This position will support the career advancement needs of black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) and immigrant staff participating in this program as well as current SHF employees.  The goal of the project is to help address workforce challenges experienced in the behavioral health and human services field.  This includes, but is not limited to, career exploration, overcoming barriers, accessing training, and building soft skills for career advancement.

Responsibilities

Reviews applications and screens applicants to obtain work history, education, training, job skills, and salary requirements, and to provide information about the organization, training programs and career opportunities. 

 

Refers applicant to appropriate job training program, internship or hiring manager. 

 

Develops and maintains professional relationships with colleges, universities, community placement offices, and other public organizations to generate qualified applicants. 

 

Assist with the onboarding, connection to a mentor and support the cultural integration of the participant into the agency.

 

Share career growth opportunities and career ladders, and assist with career exploration, overcoming barriers, accessing training, building soft skills and making appropriate connections internally and externally.

 

Source and work with interns, employees and training programs participants to assess barriers and needs for wraparound supports. Identify internal and external support. 

 

Coordinate mentoring, activities, experiences, and workshops around career fields of interest such as career days, panels, and job shadowing in collaboration with recruitment and supervisors.

 

Connect incumbent staff and interns as needed to ESL, GED, digital literacy, or other relevant trainings needed to achieve career advancement.

 

Additional Responsibilities: 

 

Prepare reports, presentations, and other written materials explaining our training and placement programs and ROI.

 

Handle every employee with patience, understanding, and a desire to help the employee achieve wellness and autonomy.

 

Measure and assess trainees, interns and employee participation and engagement (e.g., surveys) in assigned programs.

 

Provide training, support, and guidance for trainees, interns, employees and mentors.

 

Frequent travel to program sites required. 

 

Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform sedentary aspects of position, including, but not limited to desk and electronic work, typing, and driving to meetings and trainings. 
  • While performing required job tasks, physically able to remain seated frequently to continuously. 
  • While performing required job tasks, physically able to remain standing up to 15% of the time. 
  • Possess dexterity abilities required to frequently perform word processing, to operate office equipment, perform filing, and other related job responsibilities. 
  • Ability to lift 15 lbs. on occasion. 
  • Frequent travel between worksites is required.
