Overview

The Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist provides comprehensive assistive technology services, including screening, assessment, intervention, training, and outcomes measurement for persons served across affiliates of the Seven Hills Foundation. Provides and coordinates access to adapted and assistive technology to help build the independence and quality of life for people with disabilities, including people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), acquired brain injury (ABI), behavioral health, and/or medically intensive needs. Integrates the development, training, and implementation of the technology across selected Seven Hills Foundation points of care. Works in conjunction with Seven Hills Corporate College and the AT Program Director to develop on-site and virtual professional development opportunities for Seven Hills staff.


The
AT Specialist is provided with a laptop, cell phone and email to perform job duties. Travel is required.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Conduct Assistive Technology assessments and develop plan for the effective use of AT, as needed internally and externally through DDS AT evaluation referrals.
  2. Assist with facilitating AT equipment loans and demonstrations across SHF program regions/sites.
  3. Research and design AT Assessment Tools and Outcome Measurement Tools.
  4. Develop and implement Assistive Technology training as necessary.
  5. Use creative problem solving to explore innovative solutions to barriers to AT implementation.
  6. Inventory and monitor use of the equipment and keep all devices current with latest software.
  7. Keep current on latest technology innovation in software, hardware and related use.
  8. Attend AT department meetings as necessary.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Work in collaboration and in support of the Seven Hills Foundations’ operating subsidiaries.
  2. Actively promote and positively role model philosophy, mission, and core values of the organization. Foster an environment which promotes SHF Core Values (i.e., respect and kindness, integrity, teamwork, innovation, service to others).
  3. Complete and maintain all required trainings, certifications, and/or licenses.
  4. Treat individuals served, associates, guests and other stakeholders in a respectful and dignified manner.
  5. Safeguard sensitive and confidential data.
  6. Respond effectively to potential safety hazards and emergencies.
  7. Complete data analyses, reports, and required documentation as required.
  8. Extensive experience with the operation, staging and adaptation of assistive technology devices, including Android, iPad, PC and Apple platforms is required.
  9. Computer literacy/proficiency, including experience working within electronic health records (EHRs).
  10. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills. Prior experience with delivering staff professional development training highly preferred.
  11. The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, with strong project management skills.
  12. Strong understanding of human rights, self-determination and individualized treatment planning.

Qualifications

  1. Master’s or bachelor’s degree, preferably in special education or rehabilitation science. May be substituted with a combination of assistive technology-related training and/or supervised work experience in assistive technology or related fields (including occupational therapy, speech language therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation counseling).
  2. Experience and proficiency delivering in-person assistive technology services for people with disabilities. Specific experiences include but are not limited to assessment, treatment (including site assessments, simulations and product trials), fitting/adjusting services to meet client needs, implementation and training for clients and staff, and product development involving client/staff participation.
  3. Assistive Technology Professional Certification highly preferred. Qualified candidates who do not hold ATP Certification will be supported to earn certification.
  4. Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and evidence of a safe driving record.
