Overview

Provides adoption services which may include MAPP training, home studies and child adoption assessments, adoption histories and birth searches.  May also provide case management and engage in special projects.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

 

  • Provides highly skilled individual, group and family evaluation and treatment services to clients.
  • Provides highly skilled adoption services including adoption histories and birth searches, home studies, and child adoption assessments. 
  • Provides services through home visits as required.
  • Participates in adoption parties as assigned
  • Completes assessments in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with DCF case referral sources
  • Travel independently for service delivery.
  • Apprises the Director of Adoption and Family Services of major issues/concerns and carries out activities in keeping with program objectives, agency policy and supervisory direction.
  • Communicates relative to cases by telephone and in person.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to cases

 

Ancillary Functions

 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or a related master’s degree.

AND/OR

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services with a minimum of three years clinical experience working with children, adults, and families.
  • A valid social worker license or license in a closely related field.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and motor vehicle insurance at minimum levels required.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts and agency requirements for children served by the Department of Children and Families.
  • Good professional judgment regarding child welfare.
  • Ability to use computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with children, foster and pre-adoptive parents, DCF staff, co-workers and others.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

 

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and to carry up to 30 lbs. for short distances.

 

Ability to remain calm and to exercise sound judgment in stressful situations.
