Overview

The Lead Teacher is responsible for providing children with a developmentally appropriate, safe, nurturing, and organized environment where individuality and independence are respected. Supervise teachers providing leadership and direction. Maintain positive relationships with parents, children, and co-workers. Communicate the goals and policies of management to employees. The Lead Teacher will also keep written records, communicate with parents and evaluate the development of the children in the classroom.

Responsibilities

Provide a classroom environment that ensures safety of the children through direct supervision, knowing the number of children assigned to your group, checking accuracy of sign in sheets, assuring teacher/child ratios, effective arrangement of space, and proper maintenance of equipment both in the classroom and outdoors.

Treat each child with dignity and respect. Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations. Provide children with clear and consistent limits, following the Center’s Behavior Management Plan. Be actively involved with children at all times throughout the day.

To observe, record and report significant individual and group behavior. Log ongoing concerns according to the Center’s Behavioral Management Plan.

Provide daily individual child observations and record gathered information on cc.net. Evaluate individual children two times yearly using Creative Curriculum.

Plan and submit a weekly curriculum plan that reflects a variety of learning experiences through the use of small group activities, learning centers, and the outdoor environment.

Qualifications

DEEC Lead Teacher qualified

BA in ECE or related field preferred

Knowledge of child development theory and practice and NAEYC accreditation

First Aid & CPR certified

Computer experience
